This is a remarkable photograph, and to truly appreciate it, you must go to the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and view it in insanely high resolution. The detail on the rover is unbelievable. And before all you conspiracy theorists !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , the photograph is a mosaic of pictures taken by the robotic arm with the arm itself out of the shot. Which is not to say that I completely understand how it was done.

It was done with MAGIC AND COMPUTERS.

For all I know about how computers work, they might as well be magic.

It was probably using very advanced image detection and stitching algorithms to remove the arm and replace it with the surrounding environment that would have been behind it.
Basically; Algos = Magic.

Amazing. And here I am, thinking that computers are only good for free porn and doing your taxes.

Conspiracy theorists are gonna get there panties in a wad no matter what. It's what they exist to do.

Or is it what they were planted in society to do in order to keep people from looking for the truth, lest they be labeled crazy and a mad tin-hatter? It's all an elaborate ruse I tell you.

I can do my taxes on a computer too?

You can! Apparently, these computers are "multi-purpose!"

Here's a simulation of the process:

When you stop and think about the fact that we sent a robot to another planet and we are controlling it from earth and sending back "selfies" and conducting all sorts of scientific experiments and research remotely, it is absolutely mind blowing. It exists so far outside of our personal space that we live in each day that it almost seems fictional, but it's an actual thing that is actually happening. It's really hard to wrap one's head around that. Incredible picture.

I was going to try to add to that, but I couldn't. Well said.
